Chair Makeover

Hey Friends, I have another makeover for you.

I picked this chair up for free about a month ago on Marketplace.I was looking for a specific chair to do this makeover but it wasn’t quite what I wanted. How can you argue with free though AND I also received another chair for free. She was just trying to get rid of them. YAY for me. Here is the before.

 

 

 

Pretty rough shape!Want to see the process? First I want to show you an awesome chair that was done by Debi’s Design Diary. It is a Youtube Channel. This is what I wanted to recreate. The first step – Rip all the fabric off.

Take all the nails out. All 4 million of them lol. Fill all the nail holes and sand it down.

 

 I painted it Mint Chip in DIY Paint. Same color as the egg carton project here. 

 

 

As you can see, I also made some molds to add to the chair. They are from IOD and I used paper clay to make the molds then glued them onto the chair. Let them dry overnight.I applied an antiquing wax from Behr paint that I bought at Home Depot.  

 

I’m not sure I liked it like but it does add depth do it. Maybe next time I will put clear wax on first then the dark wax. I think you can control the dark wax better that way.I decided I didn’t want to macrame the back of the chair (which is what Debi did), instead, I hot glued lace to the back and covered the lace edging with another type of lace ribbon. 

 

 

This is the back and upside down. Next, I had to figure out how to do the seat. The old seat had horsehair and I didn’t want to recover it, I wanted it to be like Debi’s. These boards were extras I had from another project and decided to just go with the color. May change it later.

I did fairly well and it took me several attempts to put it together, but in the end, it’s ok and I can live with it.  BUT I still need to figure out the little gap under the front seat where it curves. I will leave that for another day.
