I decided to share this Christmas project early in November in case anyone else would like to make one of these easy containers to put their Christmas tree in.
I found my galvanized tub at Home Depot for $19.99 last year. It looks like this year it is $24.97. I bought the 17 gallon for my tree. Here is the link in case you want to price check. Galvanized Tub. You will also need toilet bowl cleaner, gloves, steel wool, and newspaper or towel, and a sponge or scrub brush.
I used Lysol toilet bowl cleaner but I hear any cleaner will work or bleach.
Let’s get started.
I would recommend wearing gloves for this application.
Start by dulling the surface with the steel wool. This is to make sure you have nothing on the bucket to prohibit the toilet cleaner from working. Get the inside and the handle and the bottom of the tub.
After dulling the surface, take your tub outside and place on a towel. Squirt the cleaner inside of the bucket and then move it around with a scrub brush. Do the same to the handle and outside of the tub!
Let sit for 4 hours.
Bring the tub inside, take your steel wool and go over the whole bucket lightly. You don’t want to remove the product you just applied.
Let sit for another 30 minutes.
Rinse off and you’re ready to go. You can stencil if you want but I left mine as is!
Pretty simple and I love the results!
My tree sat to low into the bucket for my liking so here is how I managed the problem.
I placed 4 bricks inside the bucket, each where one of the legs would go.
This worked great!
Here is what it looks like with an old quilt I had wrapped around the legs.
I love how it turned out!
Here it is partially decorated! I can’t find it all finished.
How are you decorating your tree this year?
This is my first year having a tree collar and I will be using it again.
Do you use a tree collar?
