Hi Friends,
Today is another easy recipe!!
I use canned and jarred ingredients a lot. It is not always great if you are trying to control sodium or preservatives but I find I still like using these for a matter of convenience. If it’s not your thing, you can substitute the canned tomato soup for low sodium tomato sauce and the jarred salsa for fresh veggies. In fact, I used to make this recipe with tomato sauce. One day while making it, I realized I only had tomato soup, so that is what I used. This is how I have been making it ever since.
A little side note: When I was growing up, my mom would make something similar to what this recipe is and I always thought this was THE Goulash. Later in life, I realized that this is the ‘Americanized’ version, not the version that originated in Hungary. Whether you have tried this version or the other I hope you give this one a try.
This recipe is on the sweeter side because of the tomato soup. My family loves it this way but feel free to use tomato sauce.
I also like using salsa because you do not need to chop any extra vegetables. It balances out the sweetness of the soup.
So let’s get to it.
Goulash
Ingredients
- 1 lb. Ground Beef
- 1 Pkg. 16 oz. Elbow Macaroni
- 26 oz. Can of Tomato Soup Family Size
- 1- 1 1/2 Cups Jar of Salsa I prefer Picante mild
- 8 oz. Monterey Jack Cheese Shredded
Notes
I want to mention that I like to sprinkle parmesan cheese on top of the hamburger/macaroni mixture then add the jack cheese. It doesn’t really matter the order, this is just how I do it. Yum!!
What did I tell you, quick and easy.
You can add the kind of cheese you like, same with the salsa (spicy, hot, fresh, canned). Add veggies. Make it your own. I haven’t tried it any other way so I cannot tell you how it would turn out.
Hope you give it a try and let me know if you did and how it turned out!
