Happy Tuesday Friends.
First off I have to apologize for last Saturday’s post and not having the correct information out there. I am still learning mail chimp and sometimes I miss something. Thank you for your understanding while I am figuring these things out. If you didn’t get the new project post and would like to see it, click here.
So today’s recipe is an easy and yummy dish!
It is also an old favorite of ours.
Tater Tot Casserole.
Start with hamburger and onion soup mix.
Mix these two together. Add it into a 9×13 casserole dish, pat down so the hamburger touches all sides of the dish.
If you do not want to use ground beef, use the kind of protein you like such as ground turkey or chicken.
There are many recipes for this dish out there and I am just adding mine.
I might add that this is a great dish for beginners!
You will also need Tater tots, (any variety), Cream of ? soup (I use Cream of Chicken), and Cheese (we like sharp cheddar).
After the hamburger mixture, add your shredded cheese of choice. Our family loves sharp cheese but if you have a favorite, then try it out!
When it comes to the type of soup to use, go with what you love. There is Cream of Mushroom, Celery and Chicken or you can make your own.
The original recipe states two small cans (I think 10oz) of Cream of Mushroom and no cheese but I have played with this recipe for a while and we love Cream of Chicken in the family size can and of course, cheese.
Why the family size can? We like it saucier.
Spread this over the entire dish, covering the cheese.
Next, you want to add your tots.
There are different tots out there like crowns, mini’s and I guess veggie tots. I have used them all but the veggie, so I cannot tell you how they taste.
Some people throw the tots in and kind of let them fall wherever but I like to stand mine on end.
Why? Because I like lots of tots and how the soup soaks into each one. Gives the tots great flavor.
Feel free to add corn, peas, carrots or any other vegetable your family loves.
After you put the tots into the soup, add more cheese or you can leave it out.
Either way, it is delicious!
Tater Tot Casserole
- 1 can Cream of Chicken Soup Family Size Can
- 1 pkg. Onion Soup Mix
- 1 32 oz pkg. Tater Tots more or less, just fill the pan
- 1 lb. Ground Beef
- 2 Cups° Cheddar Cheese
There is nothing hard about this recipe and honestly, you can change it up in so many ways to suit your family’s taste.
See, fast and simple.
Great for a new cook!
If you don’t want to use the onion soup mix or don’t have it on hand, you can do this instead.
Add 1 package of brown gravy mix to the ground beef. Add a handful (or your chosen amount) of chopped onions, salt or no-salt, pepper, and garlic powder, the amount is up to you. I sprinkle everything on top of the ground beef mixture and before I mix everything together I add 1 egg and about 1/4 of water. Mix all together and spread into your casserole dish.
Like I said earlier, you can use ground turkey or chicken. You can add vegetables to this dish. Leave out the cheese or add a variety of cheeses.
See what I mean. It’s easy and has lots of flavor for how simple it is. It is very versatile. Make it with the ingredients your family will love.
This is just a very basic recipe that can be fun to experiment with!
Here is another fast, simple recipe for beginners.
